Hero

The BAS clock is ticking. Barry is not.

Your BAS for the April to June quarter is due 28 July 2026 if you lodge yourself on the standard quarterly cycle. Somewhere across Sydney, Boring Barry is looking at that date, deciding it is “more of a vibe than a deadline”, and going back to alphabetising his receipt folder by suburb.

You do not have time for vibes. You have a deadline.

Book a Chat and get lodged by someone who treats the due date like a due date.

The countdown bit

Here is what the next few weeks look like if nothing changes:

  • Three weeks out: Barry says he is “across it”. He is not across it. He is across a flat white.
  • Two weeks out: you send a polite “just checking on the BAS?” email. It gets a “noted” reply. Four days later.
  • One week out: Barry discovers your Xero file has not been reconciled since May. He begins to sweat. His left sock files itself under miscellaneous.
  • Deadline day: Barry lodges at 11:52pm with numbers he “eyeballed”, or does not lodge at all and tells you it is “in the system”. It is not in the system.

Or you skip all of that and hand it to a Sydney bookkeeper who had it done a week early.

What a BAS rescue actually includes

No drama, no clock-watching, no surprise invoice. A fixed-price rescue gets you:

  • Your Xero file reconciled and your GST coding cleaned up, so the BAS is right, not just lodged.
  • The statement prepared, checked, and lodged before the 28 July 2026 self-lodgement deadline (or on the correct agent concessional date where you are eligible and enrolled).
  • If you are behind on more than one quarter, a proper catch-up sequence that lodges oldest first and keeps the penalties contained. More on that in our behind on BAS rescue plan.
  • A plan so this is the last quarter you ever spend chasing anyone, usually by moving onto fixed monthly bookkeeping in The Packs.

Why late costs more than you think

A late BAS can attract a failure-to-lodge (FTL) penalty. The ATO charges FTL in penalty units per 28-day period (or part period) the document is late, up to a cap of five periods for many lodgement types. The dollar value of a penalty unit is set by law and is indexed over time, confirm the current penalty unit value on the ATO site before you quote a dollar figure to a client or in an internal model. On top of FTL, if you owe tax and pay late, general interest charge (GIC) can apply, compounding daily. GIC rates are set quarterly by the ATO; from 1 July 2025 GIC is generally not deductible for tax purposes, which raises the real after-tax cost of ATO debt.

Lodging on time is almost always cheaper than funding penalties and interest for the privilege of Barry’s vibe-based calendar.

Quick arithmetic owners underestimate

Suppose your June-quarter BAS will show $18,000 net GST and PAYG payable. Paying two months late does not only “feel bad”. You may face FTL blocks if the statement itself is late, plus GIC on unpaid amounts while the debt sits. Even a few thousand in avoidable cost is more than a fixed BAS rescue, and that ignores the management time of chasing a bookkeeper who does not reply.

Who this page is for

  • Sydney businesses with a quarterly BAS that is not reconciled yet
  • Owners who have been ghosted mid-quarter
  • Anyone who lodged late last time and does not want the sequel
  • Multi-entity or multi-site operators who need coding cleaned before the statement is built

If you are already multi-quarter behind, start with behind on BAS rescue rather than pretending one heroic week will fix eighteen months of silence.

What “done early” looks like operationally

A competent BAS cycle is boring:

  1. Weekly bank recs all quarter (not a June miracle)
  2. GST coding reviewed as you go
  3. Payroll and super aligned, remember Payday Super from 1 July 2026 means super is a per-pay-run control, not only a BAS-adjacent chore
  4. Draft BAS figures available a week before due date
  5. Lodgement confirmed with a receipt you can find again

If your current provider cannot describe that rhythm, you do not have a BAS process. You have a deadline panic subscription.

After this quarter

A rescue gets you through 28 July 2026. A fixed monthly engagement stops you needing a rescue every quarter. That is the product logic behind The Packs: predictable scope, weekly hygiene, monthly reporting, and BAS that falls out of clean books. If you want the diagnostic first, take the Free Xero Roast. If you already know the file is on fire, book a chat and say how many quarters are open.

FAQ

When is the April-June 2026 quarterly BAS due?
For many self-lodging quarterly lodgers, 28 July 2026. Confirm your exact due date in online services or with your registered agent if you are on an agent lodgement program with a concessional date.

What if I use a registered BAS agent?
Eligible clients on a registered agent’s lodgement program may have a later due date than the self-lodger date. Do not assume you have the extension unless your agent has confirmed you are covered for that period.

Can you lodge if my books are a mess?
Yes, but the work may include cleanup so the figures are defensible. Lodging garbage on time is not a win. We reconcile and fix coding first where needed, see Xero file cleanup.

Do you handle IAS as well as BAS?
Where IAS applies to your reporting cycle, yes, as part of a proper compliance rhythm. Scope is confirmed up front on fixed pricing.

What does a Free Xero Roast have to do with BAS?
It is the fastest way to see whether the file can support an accurate BAS or whether cleanup is required first. Permissioned review, plain-English findings, not a full audit.

How is this priced?
Fixed price for the rescue scope agreed, not an open hourly meter that accelerates as the deadline approaches. Ongoing work sits in The Packs.

What about Payday Super in the same period?
From 1 July 2026, super guarantee contributions must be paid each payday and received by the fund within 7 business days. Do not let BAS week distract you from per-pay super controls, payday super ready bookkeeper.
